In a Clinic where a famous heart surgeon consulted, his secretary enters the consulting room and announces that an old man , who is very poor, wanted a consultation on the recommendation by a doctor from the public hospital .
The doctor says he will talk to him once he has attended to all customers with an appointment.
After two hours of waiting , the doctor receives the elderly man who then explains the reason for his visit:
- ' The public hospital doctor has sent me to you because only a doctor of your prestige could solve my heart problem and that your clinic has the correct equipment to perform this operation .'
The doctor reads the notes from the public hospital colleague . He asks the old man what insurance company he belongs to. The old man answers him .... ' That's the problem I do not have any social insurance and no money . As you can see , I am very poor and worse , no family ... What I ask , I know it 's not much, but maybe your colleagues and you can help me ... ' .
The doctor did not let him finish. He was disgusted with his colleague from the public hospital. He sent the old man back with a note explaining that his ' Private Clinic was very prestigious and therefore could not agree to his request” and continued to say. " He had studied and worked hard for many years to open his clinic and gain prestige and wealth.
When the old man left, the doctor noticed a folder on his desk, with some poems and a single phrase that caught his attention . The sentence read : 'The organ that speaks best is the heart' ' signed Fauvert Hermogenes . Tthe doctor really liked that phrase, but what he liked more, was the name of the author of the phrase , Hermogenes Fauvert .
It reminded him of his youth , and he remembered grade school, where the teacher read beautiful children's stories. In high school, the literature teacher who taught them beautiful poems. And one of them was that , by dedicating one to his companions , fell in love and this was his first girlfriend. ' How could he forget all that if it was part of the best years of his childhood ' .
The following week , at the end of the day, the secretary entered the doctor’s office with the evening paper and ruefully told the doctor , ' Have you heard , doctor ? Today they found ' Fauvert Hermogenes ' dead on a bench in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, he was 88 years old and poor ' . The doctor sighed with grief and said : ' Men like him should never die. May he rest in peace , I would have liked to know .... '
“But how ..... do not you remember , " says the secretary and showing him a photograph from the newspaper : ' It was the poor old man who came to see you last week for treatment . He was a well-known writer , lonely and bohemian . He had no relatives and ... ' . The doctor did not let her finish . He asked her to leave and sitting with arms crossed on the desk wept .
He cried as he had never done , like a child who had lost his soul. For a long time in the silence of his office. Then , as he wiped the tears from his desk , gently pulled the image of Christ which was under it and , after kissing him , put it in a drawer while saying 'Sorry Sir, I am not worthy of you, I am not worthy look at you. All that I have , I owe you. You sent me a poor man to me and he spoke with the voice of the heart. I listened with the ear of selfishness .... my shame is great ... Forgive me Lord.
Over the years , the ' Clinic Fauvert Hermogenes ' as it is called since then became very famous . The health care sector began to enable treatment and care for uninsured patients and the doctor personally performs operations.
How many times has the same thing happened to us! They have spoken to us with the voice of the heart and we have not heard .... we have been selfish with our brothers ...
