Township Stories & Realities - Gogo Nomvula

Gogo Nomvula raised her own five children on a factory wage. Now she's raising three grandchildren on her pension.

The school holidays are the hardest stretch.

When the feeding scheme pauses for the spring break, the three extra plates at her table don't pause with it.

She stretches her pension across two more weeks than it's built for, and she's done it every school holiday for four years running.

She doesn't call it a hardship in front of the children — she calls it Tuesday.

What she does call it, when she's speaking to us directly, is tiring.

She's not asking anyone to fix that for her. She's asking for a bit of help getting through it.

A holiday food parcel gives families like Gogo Nomvula's one less thing to stretch during the school break. Link below to sponsor one.
