Three years ago, Andile stood in the parcel queue with his mother. This week, he taught four teenagers how to build a compost heap.
Andile started coming to the garden project as a volunteer while he was studying part-time, mostly because it meant a guaranteed hot lunch on the days he came.
His eye for what made the soil work — and what didn't — was hard to miss.
He now runs the youth gardening sessions every Thursday, teaching the next group of teenagers the same skills someone once took the time to teach him.
He still eats lunch with them afterwards. Some things don't need to change.
