Consequence of bad habits

A pious mother asked a famous scholar to teach her son a tip for success in life. The scholar decided to teach the son about the consequence of bad habits.

The scholar took the lad for a stroll through a forest. On the way, he asked the boy to stop and break a tiny mango plant which was just a few weeks old.The young boy wrapped his finger and thumb around the plant and easily broke it off its weak roots.

The scholar and the boy continued walking through the forest.

Once again the scholar asked the boy to stop for a moment and this time pull off a relatively old mango tree about a month old. The lad wrapped his palm around it slightly stiffer and pulled hard for a few moments. Finally, he pulled the plant off the ground.

They continued walking and just like the last time, the scholar asked “Now pull out that one,” pointing to another mango tree a few yards away.

The boy walked up to the tree and gasped. It was slightly bigger than the previous mango tree. He had to use all his strength to pull it off.

“Now take this one out,” said the scholar, indicating a huge mango tree. It was an enormous fully grown mango tree with its roots deeply rooted into the ground and having many thick branches and many fruits. The boy grasped the big stem of the tree and tried to pull it off the ground. But it would not come out. “It’s impossible,” said the boy, panting with the effort.

“So it is with bad habits,” said the scholar. “When the habits have just begun to blossom, it is easy to pull them, but when they are fully grown it is impossible to pull them off of your personality.

Moral: Don’t wait for bad habits to grow in you, drop them while you have control over it else they will get control over you.
