A fenced plot, healthy soil, and a few dozen seedlings — that's all standing between an empty lot and a school garden that feeds itself.
Lindiwe's school garden started with donated seeds and a lot of digging.
To get it producing enough spinach, beans, and carrots to genuinely add to the feeding scheme's lunches, we need fencing to keep out foraging goats, a proper watering line, and seedling trays for the next planting round.
It's not a quick fix, but a garden that keeps producing means the school kitchen relies a little less on what we can buy week to week.
