Mam' Busi grew up in a village outside Giyani, an hour's walk from the nearest shop.
She still doesn't trust vegetables she didn't grow herself.
She's 67.
Behind the kitchen she has eleven old tyres filled with soil: spinach, morogo and a few stubborn tomatoes.
Every Thursday she picks what's ready and carries it to Mama Dikeledi in a washing basin.
It's the International Day of Rural Women today.
Mam' Busi says the women she grew up with could feed a family from a patch smaller than a taxi.
She's teaching two of the teenage reading buddies to plant.
Thabo is "not very good yet."
Got old tyres, seedlings or a bag of compost to spare? Message us. Mam' Busi wants twenty tyres going before summer.
