10 Toxic Thoughts That Damage Your Soul

Negative thoughts have a way of creeping in our brains. They tell us we’re not good enough or not smart enough to reach our goals. They hold us back from making a positive change or finding true happiness. Toxic thoughts can damage your soul and keep you from living a happy, healthy life. Being able to recognize a toxic thought when you have one can help you keep a clear mind and a positive attitude.

Here are ten toxic thoughts that damage your soul:

1. “I’m Not Ready”

If you constantly tell yourself you’re not ready, you never will be ready. Change can be scary, but if you’re willing to take a chance, the results might be pretty amazing. You are the only person who is standing in your way. Be willing to take a leap of faith every once in a while, you might be glad you did.

2. “I’m Not Good Enough”

Whether someone else has drilled this thought into your head or its your own subconscious that’s bringing you down, constantly thinking that you aren’t good enough can wreak havoc on your health, success and happiness. If you see areas you want to improve in, set a goal and work toward it. But remember that self-love and self-acceptance is a vital part of your happiness.

3. “Life Is Too Hard”

If this thought has crossed your mind, it’s proof that you’re only human. Life has a way of overwhelming us every once in a while. But learning to slow down, prioritize and focus on the task at hand can keep you from feeling defeated. Tackle one thing at a time instead of trying to do it all at once.

4. “I Won’t Be Happy Until…”

The grass is always greener. This thought will rob you of your happiness. Take chances and follow your dreams, but find a way to happy throughout your journey. If you wait until you reach the end – whatever your version of true happiness and true success is that you’ve been pining after – you’ll miss out on all of the great experiences to be had along the way.

5. “It’s Too Late”

This thought will only bring negativity into your life. If you want to make a change, it’s up to you to make that happen. You’re the only person standing in your way. If it means something to you, it’s never too late. Don’t let your age or the time that’s passed stop you from transforming your life.

6. “I Don’t Have Time”

This phrase is used as an excuse all too often. Most of us don’t have a ton of extra time each day or each week, but if it’s important enough, you need to make time. If there’s a goal you want to accomplish, you’ll only achieve it by being dedicated and determined. Be willing to put in the time and the work in order to see the results you want.

7. “I’m Not Good At Anything”

This is another toxic thought that attacks your self-esteem from the inside out. If you don’t feel like you’re good at anything, write down a list of all things you enjoy doing. Practice them and see if you can get better. Don’t compare yourself to others. Focus only on being a better version of yourself than you were yesterday.

8. “I Don’t Fit In”

Wanting to belong is a natural. Feeling like an outsider can be lonely and painful. But it’s important to remember that you have to first accept yourself for who are, before anyone else can. Don’t see the approval of anyone but yourself. The right people will eventually come along and they’ll love you for who you are – your quirks and unique qualities included.

9. “I’m A Failure”

Failing at something doesn’t make you a failure. It can be difficult to wrap your head around, but start training your brain to see failure as proof that you tried. Don’t bring yourself down for taking a chance or trying something new. After a while, your failures may lead to great success, all because you were willing to step out of your comfort zone.

10. “My Goals Seem Impossible”

If you don’t believe that you will ever reach your goals, you probably won’t. Half of the journey is the belief that you can make it happen, along with the willingness to work hard to achieve it. Focus on positive thoughts about the future and set small milestones for yourself on your journey to your ultimate goal.
