Week two of Gogo Storytime, and Mrs Mahlangu came to watch.
She sat at the back on a borrowed chair while Mam' Thandi read, then stayed to listen to three of "her" children read to the gogos one by one.
One of them was on her list two weeks ago. Yesterday he read a full page in isiZulu without stopping.
Afterwards, the teacher and the retired teacher compared notes over a second bowl of porridge.
Mam' Thandi taught Grade 3 for 31 years. Mrs Mahlangu teaches Grade 4.
They worked out that between them they've taught most of this street to read.
Gogo Storytime runs every Saturday at 10am.
