Township stories and realities - Ma Lerato

Ma Lerato volunteers three mornings a week. On the other four, she's raising three children and working a part-time cleaning shift.

She's 38. Her own two kids and her sister's son all eat breakfast at the kitchen before school, and she says that's part of why she helps: "I'm not going to sit and watch other people cook for my children."

People like Ma Lerato carry a lot without saying much about it. So at the end of every Friday shift, the volunteers stop for twenty minutes.

Tea, whatever's left of the bread, and nobody's allowed to talk about work. It started as a joke. Now nobody skips it.

Who are the people quietly holding your family or street together? Leave them a message here.

They might see it.
